Meet DWARS, the pert little sister of the GreenLeft party of the Netherlands. With the overconfidence of youth, she attacks her big sister whenever the GreenLeft party threatens to lose sight of her true ideals. She keeps close track of all of her activities in parliament. And hardly a GreenLeft conference goes by, or DWARS pops up with a number of challenging proposals. Yet, when the worst comes to the worst, she is only too glad to help her out wherever she can. After all, in the end both strive for the same ideals: a society based on Diversity and Sustainability.
DWARS wants to change the world and is convinced this is possible! She refuses to drown in conservative pessimism and does not allow her convictions to be reduced to pragmatic and unimportant trivialities. No, she is dedicated to the development and implementation of cheerful and truly progressive ideas.
In sympathy with the weak and poor of today’s world and in sympathy with the future generations who will inherit it from us in times to come, DWARS strives for a radical adjustment of today's economic and democratic structures. Some might call such aims utopian, unrealistic or even unreasonable. Let them. The reproach of being utopian tells us more about the lack of idealism in our society than about the unattainability of the aims thus criticised. Lets be happy that DWARS is there. Lets be happy that there are still young people who believe that a revolutionary change for the good is possible!
The ideal world DWARS strives for is sustainable, diverse, free and above all righteous.
What does DWARS do?
On a local level, young people can get involved in DWARS in one of its regional divisions. These divisions try to influence local politics either through their connection with the local politicians of the GreenLeft-party, or by organising campaigns and demonstrations.
But people can also get involved in the organisation by participating in one of the many working groups of DWARS. The subjects with which these working groups deal vary from education to environment, and from international subjects to philosophy. And if there happens to be no working group on a certain subject as yet, you can always establish one yourself.
The political course of DWARS is determined by its members. During the DWARS Conferences that are held two times a year the members discuss the Political Programme of DWARS and they appoint a special group of people to guard the ideas of DWARS between the Conferences and to formulate responses to current events.
And if you have anything to say to DWARS?
