Hallo daar,

Volgend weekend is al het Dag van Europa Weekend in Maastricht. Het moment dat we definitief moeten weten wie er komen, komt dus dichterbij. Wil je ook meedoen? Meld je dan zo snel mogelijk aan!

Waar gaat het over?
Op 25 maart 1957 werd in Rome het verdrag getekend dat het begin zou betekenen van de Europese Unie. Met de herinnering aan de oorlog nog scherp in het geheugen spreekt de inleiding van dit verdrag over vrede, welzijn en “an ever closer union among the peoples of Europe”.

Vandaag de dag, 50 jaar na dato, is de Europese Unie een grote en logge institutie, met natuur- en bevolkingsproblemen binnen haar domein terwijl aan de buitengrenzen duizenden mensen de muren van ‘Fortress Europe’ proberen te beklimmen. Net als toen staat Europa ter discussie.

Een goede reden om juist nu actie te ondernemen. De Jonge Groenen uit België, Duitsland, Luxemburg en Nederland grijpen dit moment aan om op te komen voor een ander Europa. In Maastricht, waar in 1992 verdere uitwerking voor een grenzeloos Europa werd beklonken, zal daarom op vrijdag 11, zaterdag 12 en zondag 13 mei 2007 een groen en kritisch geluid te horen zijn.

Het belooft een enorm gezellig weekend te worden met meer dan 40 deelnemers. Overnachten vind plaats bij DWARS’ers thuis in Maastricht, dus breng een slaapzak en een matje mee. Na de aankomst en de eerste kennismakingactiviteiten zullen we een rondleiding door Maastricht geven. Zaterdag wordt een drukke dag met o.a. een straatactie, debat en een internationale avond. Voor zondag staat een laatste discussie en een bezoek aan de grotten gepland voordat we weer huiswaarts keren.

Wat gaan we doen?
Friday (May 11th 2007):
16:00: Arrival and first meeting in front of Maastricht Central Station
16:30: Meeting at Gert-Jans place, expectations and motivations, getting to know each other
17:00: Dinner and cleaning up after dinner and doing the dishes
18.30: City tour: “The European history of Maastricht”, subdivided into two groups
20:00 – 22:00: presentation and discussion: History of boundaries of the Euregion by history professor Ad Knotter at De Vitrine

Saturday (May 12th 2007):
7:30: Wake up
8:00: Breakfast at sleeping-places + preparing sandwiches for lunch
9:30: Leaving for the discussion at Centre Céramique
10:00 – 12:00: Meeting and discussion at Centre Céramique: Talking about the constitution: history of treaties in the European Union, What did DWARS say towards the treaty? Why was it rejected in the Netherlands? What discussions took place in Belgium and Germany, where there was no referendum?
12:00: Lunch and break
13:00 – 14:00: Preparing the street action
14:00 – 16:00: Street action* in Maastricht city centre and evaluation (*we won't give away too much about what we re going to do, but we can tell you that in pairs of two or three people we are going to do an interactive enquiry in the streets of Maastricht)
16:30 – 16:45: Walk to the train station
16:45 – 18:30: Participating in a noise demonstration together with Amnesty International Maastricht for GroenLinks- and AI-member Abdullah Al-Mansouri from Maastricht. Starting point at the train station, endpoint at the Kakeberg monument in the city centre.
18:30 – 19:00: Going by bus to Gert-Jan's place
19:00: Dinner and cleaning up after dinner and doing the dishes
21:00: International evening and party with the Eurovision Song Contest at Gert-Jan's place if the weather allows as to do so.

Sunday (May 13th 2007)
7:30: Wake up
8:00: Breakfast at sleeping places + preparing sandwiches for lunch
9:30: Leaving for the city caves visit
10:30 – 12:00: Visit to the Maastricht city caves (Grotten Noord)
12:00 – 12:15: Walk to city park for lunch
12:15 – 13:30: Lunch and break in the city park (of course, not in case of bad weather, in which case another location will be sought)
13:30 – 13:45: Walk to Centre Céramique
14:00 – 16:00: Common House Debate on European Topics at Centre Céramique
16:00 – 17:00: Evaluation of the seminar
17:00: departure
